Presence by Mark Sobczak

This selection of images is from a project called “Presence”. It is drawn from 5 expeditions to Antarctica and 2 expeditions to the North Arctic Circle. The photographs are studies of light and shadow, and capture natural as well as man-made forms. The Poles offer the most magical forms of light on the planet. Light comes from angles and bounces off reflective surfaces unlike any other place on Earth. The series is a meditation on the beauty and strength of solitude. It is also a document of a changing world’s landscapes…. memories of moments never to occur again.
